I apologize for not updating last night, it was a late night at the hospital. Sharon is continuing to be a fighter. Yesterday was a special day, I think that many of us were able to say everything we needed to say and share. Sharon's youngest brother also arrived and has joined Sharon's support team beside her bedside. Today was a little more difficult, Sharon slept most of the day and took a lot of her energy to open her eyes and spend some time with us this evening. The overwhelming support has been so comforting in such a difficult time, We are so grateful for everyone on "Team Sharon". I'm sorry that I don't have more positive words to share. Keep praying and thinking of Sharon and hope she can find peace.
I'll try to update tomorrow.

Thank you for the update Val. We love you Sharon!!!
I love you, Sharon. You will forever be a part of me.
Sharon,
You have left an indelible mark on both Neil and me. You are amongst us as I urge him to fix every "r" and even more importantly, as I parent him day in and day out. You have shared such wisdom and with such generosity. In addition to teaching him, you have loved him, and for that I thank you. For the many lessons that I have learned from you about parenting, teaching, standing on my own, and being a friend, I also thank you. You have helped mold us into who we are today. We will carry you in our hearts - ALWAYS. We love you!
Praying for you and your family,
Rosemary and Neil
Sharon, you are a remarkable woman and an inspiration to me. Love, Rita
My dear friend Sharon,
You are one of the most amazing people I know. You have touched so many lives. I'm so grateful that my family and I have been some of those lucky ones.
When I would see you at school, you would always greet me with that wonderful smile. And when I needed it, a hug. Those hugs got me threw difficult times. We love you so much. And our family is made up of huggers so....
Sean sends a hug, Emily sends a hug, Grandma sends a hug, Jimmy sends a hug and I send all my love wrapped up in a hug for you.
Always and forever you will be in my heart and in my prayers.
Love you, Patty

Sharon -
As your hand reached out for the hands of our children, and as you gently grasped their small hands in yours and walked down the hallways of Catoctin, so, too, did you walk into the hallways of our hearts. Few people in this world have such a profound effect on both parent and child as you have.
Although many hearts are breaking as you struggle to find peace, in time, our hearts will heal and will be made even stronger because of that which you have taught us, and because of that little piece of you that we will always and forever carry with us in our hearts.
Love you, my friend,
Kelli
Val - Please don't apologize. The fact that you take the time to update us at this stage in Sharon's fight touches us all.
Dearest Sharon, you are one incredible woman, mother and friend, one whom I've been blessed to know. You have no idea what you did for me during our time together. Your words of wisdom and unconditional love were so appreciated. I love you. Praying for His peace to surround you and your sweet family.
I love this verse: John 14:27
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
Love you Sharon!!!

Sharon,
You are such an inspiration to everyone around you. From the first day I met you, I knew that you would be someone that I could look up to. I cannot put into words how wonderful it was to work alongside you. You show so much compassion and love in everything you do. I hope that you will find peace and know that Catoctin will always hold a special place in their hearts for Sharon Funk. Thank you for all that you have done and all that you will continue to do through those who have been inspired by you.
Love,
Kristen
Dearest Sharon,
Before I left you and your family last Thursday evening, you told me "life is a gift", and you were so right! But it's the people who travel through this life that GIVE and GIVE of themselves without ever expecting anything in return, who LOVE completely and fully, who can find the GOOD in any given situation, who CARE regardless of the circumstances, and who truly LIVE...those are the people that MAKE this life a gift for the rest of us. YOU have been and always will be a PRECIOUS GIFT, and a PERFECT GIFT. I marvel that Heaven saw fit to bring you to Catoctin so you could GIFT us...staff, students, and parents. Our lives have truly been blessed by your presence, friendship, humilty, graciousness, and love. It's true, you are a part of us and we you. Our hearts are full and overflowing with gratitude and love...you are among the BEST of the BEST...May you and your family be filled with and inner peace and may you all feel the immense love that is poured out for you....may it always be so...
Thank you sweet woman for the many gifts you showered upon me...
With great respect and love,
KB
Please tell "Miss Sharon" the Bhojwani boys, Reyhaan and Jahaan send their love and hugs.
This message is from Neil:
Dear Mrs. Funk,
I miss you and wish I could see you. You are one of the best teachers I know, if not the best. I miss seeing you every day.
Love,
Neil
Dear Sharon,
I have been thinking about you all evening. I hope you are resting well tonight. I have been remembering the first day we met and how much I liked you from the second we met. My little guy was still in diapers, going to see Ms Sharon with his little Nemo bookbag dragging behind. Well, he has grown up in front of our eyes. You have been a big part of his life. I remember the excitement in your voice when Sean achieved a goal and also the concern in your voice when there were things we needed to work on or when Sean just wanted to sit on the floor and play with you and the yellow school bus or Dora playhouse. He loves you so much and keeps you in his prayers. He sends special hugs to you because you are such a special lady to him. And you are a special lady to us all. I hope you know how special you are to us all. We all love you so much! I hope you can feel the love that we send to you each day.
xoxo

Dearest Sharon,
You are beautiful! I love you.
Dear Sharon
Think about the lights on a Christmas tree, and the little twinkly ones we drape over our houses and trees this time of year. You are just like them …. so many of us love you and carry a little piece of beautiful you inside of us. Can you see them? Things seem very dark right now but it is from this vantage point that those Sharon lights are most visible. And they are gorgeous. Can you see you how vibrant and alive they are? And how when they move close to each other they glow a little brighter? Those lights are your masterpiece and they are truly exceptional. Visit each little light in your mind and think about good times shared with each one. Just let your mind roll wherever it will with these good thoughts. I will try to get you started … remember how we laughed about Liam’s speech progress and you told me he would be fidgeting and twist those new eyeglasses so far apart you thought surely they would break into several pieces and he just kept explaining “No Mrs. Funk, they are FLEXIBLE frames” and you said nothing could possibly be meant to stretch that far. Let me tell you, that kid does like to stretch limits! And would you believe he still has that very same pair? And remember the Target Gift card with the frog he picked out for you … the one with the very long tongue that reminded him of speech exercises and you said “Liam, he makes me LLLLLLLaugh”. You posted that Frog in your office and it meant so much to him that you did that.
Now, let’s move on to another little light of yours. Which one is it? What has come to your mind? Flicker in and out between theses individual lights and share all your good memories with us. We will hear you but you also have the power to keep some memories private. Visit each of this way and we will visit you. A forever bond.
Diane
Butch and family -
Many comments are posted for our dear friend, Sharon, but please know that our thoughts are not only with Sharon, but also with each of you - Butch, Bradley, Gregory, Loren, Val, Colleen, Danny and Brendan. I know how hard it is for you right now, as I traveled the same road as you are traveling now when I lost my Dad to cancer 3 years ago. The pain is immense.
I am so thankful to you for sharing your dear Sharon with us. She gave so much to the children of Catoctin - not only in the therapy and advice that she gave, but in coming up with fun, unique ways to help our children succeed (projects she often worked on into the wee hours of the morning), and in the time that she so generously gave in commuting to Leesburg from Woodstock. Thank you for allowing her to pour her heart into helping our children year after year. Our lives have been blessed because of your generosity in sharing such a special person with us!
I pray that you will derive strength in these days from all of the prayers that are being offered for each of you as well, and that seeing how much Sharon was loved by all, and how she has made a difference in the lives of so many, helps to ease the pain that you are feeling now.
Praying for and thinking of each of you,
Kelli
Dear Sharon,
Remembering the talks we would share after we had finished our speech business that brought me to Catoctin. Your beautiful smile and encouraging words always brightened my day. Thank you for the many ways you supported our students - especially by showing them such respect and caring. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Debbie Starliper
Sharon,
You have touched so many lives....from the little people--including mine--who you encouraged in your small office at school, to your colleagues who you inspired with your wisdom and dedication, to your friends who love you. You have taught me to appreciate every day and everything we take for granted. Thinking of you and your family,
Ellen
Dear Sharon,
Late Happy Birthday! I notice your age wasn't mentioned. We ladies can never be too careful about that! Seriously, I've been thinking about you and want to send you words of respect and love for all the ways you helped me when we worked together. You were unique in your kindness and eagerness to assist and help others. God bless you. With love forever and gentle hugs -- Irene
We love you!

Heaven just became a far more beautiful place . . .
You have done more for Dominick & Brett during your two years with them than any doctor / nurse has done for them in their lifetime. We love you dearly.
