LIVE Well, LAUGH Often, LOVE Much

Team Sharon,

It is with great sadness that Loren and I are writing this post.  Last evening, at 7:07, Sharon lost her battle with Pancreatic Cancer.  Words cannot express how much all of your support, cards, well wishes and hugs have meant to us. Really everything that was done for Sharon was incredible. Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts for loving Sharon as much as you did.  Butch and the boys would like to have a memorial service that celebrates Sharon's life, when that is arranged, we invite you, all of her supporters, to come and remember the incredible life that she lived. (I'll try and remember to update a post with details when they are arranged.)

Last evening, Butch, Bradley, Gregory, Loren and I were discussing the best way to add closure to Sharon's blog.  Loren came up with the idea to share pictures of Sharon, as we will remember her.  Our hope is that as you read this post, it will be more of a celebration of who Sharon was than a sad reminder of the battle she has fought over the past 9 months.  Loren and I spent the entire morning into the early afternoon going through the many, many, many, many folders of pictures that Sharon has collected over the years.  We giggled many times when we would find a folder of pictures titled: "Bradley Cooking Steaks, "Emily Eating Cereal", "Gregory's New Tires," "Wrestling" which we opened and found Butch, Bradley and Gregory wrestling in the living room from a few years ago.

We hope you find some comfort in remembering Sharon the way we do.

Gone From My Sight
by Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

Val and Loren, thanks for the beautiful pictures. I love the last one with Sharon smiling and looking healthy and happy. That is the way I will remember her with her beloved Butch in her arms with her two boys and her cherished girls. Perfect title for her final blog message. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sharon was so kind to me when I was fighting cancer. She will always be in my thoughts especially when I think of my days teaching at Catoctin. I wish I had lived close enough to have helped her through this battle. She was so loving and full of joy. She was blessed with the love of her family. I'm sure she has been welcomed into heaven by all her family and friends. She will always be alive in my heart. Priscilla Waters

Thank you so much for posting these pictures of Sharon. She had such a beautiful smile and a beautiful spirit. She cared so much for everyone that I know we will carry a little bit of Sharon with us always. She had a way of making you feel extra special and important. My children were blessed to have had her in their life and I was blessed to have her as my friend. She will always be a hero to me for what she has done for my children and for showing me what courage truly means. Sharon you will be in my heart always.

Thank you, Val and Loren, for sharing these beautiful memories of Sharon!

As I process the awful, awful news of today, I can't help but think of our dear Sharon . . . I am confident that she is standing right by Jesus Himself, her beautiful wings outspread, with that radiant smile on her face, as she hugs each child, comforts him or her, and gently takes each tiny hand in hers and leads them down the hallways of heaven.

Continuing to keep each of you in my thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.

I know that angels walk the earth in many forms. All
of those who have been touched by Sharon's love and kindness know that she is the angel that walked through our lives. I immediately thought that Sharon was taken from us so that she could be there waiting for the dear little ones that lost their lives this past week.I'm sure they were not afraid as soon as they saw her amazing smile and her outstretched hand. I will miss you deeply my dear friend, and remember you always.

Val and Loren, thank you so much for posting all the lovely pictures of Sharon and happy times. My Sean was one of Sharon's Catoctin children. He and I looked at pictures of Ms Sharon tonight and shared stories of fun times with Ms Sharon. Her beautiful smile, snuggly hugs and all the toys in her office. He is sure that she is with his Granddad watching over us all. Keeping you all in our prayers. Patty xoxo
